Your vote could help AGE UK support Southampton’s Lonely People

We are delighted to announce that Age UK Southampton’s ‘Combatting Loneliness’ project application to the Aviva Community Fund  has successfully gone through to the Public Vote stage.  The application is for £25,000 to support our  Home Visiting service, which is a vital support for growing numbers of lonely and isolated older people.

Southampton’s older people are at high risk of experiencing loneliness and social isolation, which has a devastating effect on health, resulting in numerous physical and mental health problems, such as depression. Lonely individuals are more likely to visit their GP, have higher use of medication and a higher incidence of falls. It is estimated that 5,482 over 65s in Southampton currently experience high levels of loneliness and with a predicted 17% rise in the city’s older population by 2024 there is an urgent need to tackle this problem.

Please support us by registering at the Aviva sign-up page, , then use your votes – (you have 10 to use) to support our Combatting Loneliness project.  We currently receive no direct funding for this important service which supports lonely older people, many of whom would only have the TV for company.  With the cold, dark, winter nights coming up, and the sad prospect of spending the Christmas season alone, your vote could make the difference. Hurry – voting closes on November 20th!

Please tell your friends, family and work colleagues about this vote so that they too can support us.

We have also, for the first time, registered for Crowdfunding to give our supporters an opportunity to extend the life of this valuable and much needed project – you can make a pledge by clicking the Crowdfunding link at the bottom of the Aviva Community Fund page.
