PRESS RELEASE – The Windrush
PRESS RELEASE
The Windrush
You will be aware of the recent controversy about the “Windrush” migrants and the distress caused by Home Office rules being unfairly and wrongly applied.
Although the Home Office has set up a task force to deal with individual cases; there are many who believe that this step is insufficient and may not necessarily meet the needs of those affected. We are certainly of the view that the help required needs to be more locally available and furthermore local people need to be reassured that they will be dealt with sympathetically.
To this end, some of us who are in touch with the communities affected have negotiated with Caroline Nokes the Minister of State for Immigration & Southampton MP to host a one-day event locally, with Home Office specialists on hand, to provide the necessary information and to be available for one-to-on interviews where necessary. The event will take place on
Thursday May 17th 2pm-5pm
West Itchen Community Trust
Ropewalk Centre
53 Derby Road
Southampton
SO14 0DJ
The event is open to those who arrived in that time frame and their families, and of course those who seek information to help and support them.
