Parents Voice – School Exclusions and Home Schooling
Parents Voice is a group of parents who are concerned about lack of suitable provision for our children in mainstream schools with a view to raising these issues directly with Southampton City Council Senior Councillors and staff in the future.
With support from Southampton Voluntary Services (SVS) they are gathering as many views as possible from parents to clarify the key issues and with the intention of feeding back anonymised, aggregated information as well as hosting an open meeting for parents in the future to express their view directly if they wish.
There currently appear to be three emerging issues but other parents’ experiences will help inform us on the scale, range and depth of this. The three aspects currently identified are –
- Lack of suitable provision for children with additional support needs whether in mainstream or specialist provision
- Children excluded, or on short hours schooling, because schools are unable or unwilling to support their attendance which can result in parents feeling pressured into home schooling as their only option
- For parents who positively chose to exercise their right to home school there are additional costs, barriers and difficulties often put in their way to doing so.
Parents voice would really welcome your views on these issues or any others of concern to you either by filling in a Survey monkey on line questionnaire via this link – School Exclusion & Home Schooling Survey or by attending to one of the parents Drop In session on
