Each year up to £5.5 Billion in State Benefit goes unclaimed by older people.

Local charity Age UK Southampton can offer FREE confidential Office and Home Visits to the people aged 50 plus to find out what benefits they may be entitled to and to help them complete the necessary benefit forms.

Claire Roberts, Services Manager at the charity said “Some people miss out on claiming benefits because they’re put off by the claims process and the length of the form.  Our staff and volunteers are trained and knowledgeable and are able to answer the questions with the person in mind and in the correct fashion to give them the very best chance of being successful in applying.”

Since June 2017 Age UK Southampton has supported 80 older people to claim £380,787.87 in state benefits they were entitled to and the charity is keen to help even more.

Mrs G from Swaythling said “Since receiving my extra benefits I can afford to pay for more care, to travel by taxi if necessary, turn up my heating and pay my bills.  I can also afford disability adaptions to my home and I have gained some independence and my overall wellbeing has improved.”
