March’s Funding Bulletin

Welcome to the March newsletter

It’s starting to feel like winter is finally on its way out here in Southampton, which in funding terms means it’s time to sort out your summer and autumn activities. We’ve got some general community grants on this list this month. WHSmith Trust Community Grants closes on 31 March, Ford Britain (small grants) closes on 30 April and our own Community Chest grants scheme is re-opening for 2018 and will also close on 30 April.

Could you improve cohesion and inclusivity in your community? Apply for a grant now

Deadline: 23 March 2018, at midday

We’re offering community and voluntary organisations, social enterprises, faith groups and schools the opportunity to apply for a small grant to support community cohesion and inclusivity projects in the city of Southampton.

Grants of between £100 and £15,000 are available to support projects that provide positive interactions and education or mechanisms to tackle specific issues. We would like to fund projects that aim to have a lasting impact beyond the end of the funding. We are also interested in projects that particularly benefit the Afro-Caribbean community.

HLF First World War: then and now

Last year to apply

2018 is the last year of this small grants programme from the Heritage Lottery Fund.  The First World War affected millions across the globe and shaped the world we live in.

The Centenary is a chance to understand the war better, uncover its stories and explore what it means to us today. Grants up to £10,000 are available to support a wide range of projects that help us understand the First World War and its impact.

The more things change the more they stay the same

The conduct of large international charities is in the news again at the moment. While we might think that these problems are new, this blog looks at a fundraising report from 1971 that identifies many of the same fundraising issues charities face today.

Fascinating food for thought that applies as much to small voluntary organisations as to large international ones. Read more
