The British Red Cross Community Connectors service in Southampton provides up to 12 weeks of person-centred support to someone experiencing loneliness or social isolation. The focus is on helping each person to connect to their community, by building their confidence and sense of identity and purpose. Support is tailored to a person’s specific needs, depending on their experience of feeling lonely or isolated.

Referral criteria The service operates an open referral pathway. People can refer themselves to the Community Connector service or be referred through a variety of routes including: a family member or friend, their GP, other health and social care professionals, local community groups, and a range of other charitable and local businesses including local Co-Operative services.

To access this service you should be:

  • Be 18 years or over
  • Feel lonely or isolated or at risk of becoming lonely or isolated
  • Feel disconnected from the local community and require support to establish or improve links to services, facilities or activities
  • Understand the service and give consent to support by a Community Connector
  • Live in the SO14, SO15, SO16 or SO17 area
