Walking for Health – Weston Lane Healthy Living Centre

An event every week that begins at 11:00am on Thursday, repeating until June 29, 2019

We work with Sustrans and Walking for Health to support a number of walks across Southampton.

You can attend any or all of the following walks:

Mondays at 10am from the Hawthorn Centre on the Common – a walk that lasts just under an hour. We stay on the pavements and it’s almost completely off road. Many walkers stay afterwards for a social tea or coffee and a chat at the Hawthorns café. New people should arrive 10 minutes before the start of the session to meet the walk leader and register. (Moderate one hour ‘Keep Fit’ walk)

Mondays at 10.30am from Central Library in the Civic Building – In partnership with Macmillan, this walk is designed for anyone affected by cancer. The walk will be run by trained volunteers ready to offer you support and advice in confidence. The walk will tak you around Central Parks and incorporates mindfulness and breathing techniques. Enjoy refreshments with the Macmillan team in the library afterwards. New people should arrive 10 minutes before the start to register. (Gentle pace 45 minute ‘Walk and Talk’)

Mondays at 2pm from the Shirley Health Centre – a mixed pace walk of about 30 minutes on the pavement on quiet roads. There are some kerbs and roads to cross. It is a great walk for people just beginning to walk to improve their health. Many walkers stay afterwards for a social tea or coffee in the medical centre. New people should arrive 10 minutes before the start of the session to meet the walk leader and register. (Mixed pace 30 minute ‘Get Fit’ walk)

Tuesdays at 10.30am from the Shirley Health Centre – a mixed pace walk of about 30 minutes on the pavement on quiet roads. There are some kerbs and roads to cross. It is a great walk for people just beginning to walk to improve their health. Many walkers stay afterwards for a social tea or coffee in the medical centre. New people should arrive 10 minutes before the start of the session to meet the walk leader and register. (Mixed pace 30 minute ‘Get Fit’ walk)

Tuesdays at 2pm – Stress buster walk from the Hawthorns Centre on the Common – a walk that lasts just under an hour. We walk mostly off-road and return to the Hawthorns café so that people can stay for a social time, afterwards, if they wish. New people should arrive 10 minutes before the start of the session to meet the walk leader and register. (Brisk one hour ‘Keep Fit’ walk)

Wednesdays at 10:30am – Easy Riverside Walk from the first bench by Cobden Bridge at Riverside Park –  A mixed-pace walk on a fairly flat route accomodating people just beginning to walk to improve their health and with options to raise your heart rate and slowly build up your pace. There are always new things to see on this walk as we pass through lots of different habitats. Dependent on interest, we can have a social tea or coffee at a cafe in Bitterne Triangle. New people should arrive 10 minutes before the start of the session to meet the leader and register. (Mixed pace ‘Get Fit’ walk, up to 1 hour)

Thursdays at 10:30 am from the Hawthorns Centre on the Common – a walk that lasts just under an hour. We stay on the pavements and it’s completely off road apart from the Cowherds car park and Cemetery Road. Many walkers stay afterwards for a social tea or coffee and a chat at the Hawthorns café. New people should arrive 10 minutes before the start of the session to meet the walk leader and register. (Moderate one hour ‘Keep Fit’ walk)

Thursdays at 11:00am from the Weston Lane Healthy Living Centre – a walk that lasts about 50 minutes, including a 5 minute break at the seats on Weston Shore to admire the view. Going at a gentle pace (or slightly faster), this walk is designed for people just beginning to use walking as a way to improve their health. We’ll stay on pavements and paths, and can adjust the route to suit the participants. We’ll have a tea or coffee back at the community room at the Weston Lane surgery. New people should arrive 10 minutes before the start of the session to meet the leader and register. (Mixed pace 50 minute ‘Get Fit’ walk)
