Southampton Young Carers
Project
Southampton Young Carers Project has been
established for 10 years. The project works with children and
young people aged between 8 - 18yrs whose lives are affected by
caring for an unwell or disabled family member.
The person they care for may have a physical or
learning disability, mental ill health or have difficulties
with drug/alcohol use.
The project is committed to ensuring young carers
enjoy positive activities and opportunities that other young people enjoy.

Southampton Young Carers
Project currently runs 3 youth groups across the city. This enables young
carers to come together, gain necessary respite from their caring role and offer
peer support and understanding to each other.
The Young Carers choose and plan their activities,
aiding in growth of empowerment and confidence skills.
The Young Carers project also provides a befriending
service for young carers on a 1:1 basis to access hobbies, sports and recreation
opportunities.
Schools
Outreach Workers cover secondary schools in Southampton.
They offer P S H E lessons, assemblies, and teacher training. Regular
termly support groups and one off exciting activities during school holidays.
Information and advocacy is integral to
the work of the project.
