Safe In Sound Website

Safe in Sound is a voluntary project committed to raising awareness of the risks associated with substance use, reducing harm and promoting the health, safety and enjoyment of people using local entertainment venues.

We believe people have a right to accurate, reliable and honest information regarding the impact substance use and related issues may have on their lives, in order to make informed choices.

We maintain a non-judgemental approach, neither condemning nor condoning drug use and operate under a strict policy of confidentiality.

Safe in Sound operates in a number of ways:

    Club Outreach

  • Visiting clubs, music events and festivals and promoting dialogue around substance use and the related health, legal and social issues.
  • Distributing 'harm reduction' information in the form of drug cards and booklets.
  • Raising awareness of other local and national organisations that provide services for drug users.
  • Promoting safer sex and distributing free condoms.
  • Offering help and reassurance to people at events who are in crisis due to drug use.

    Special Events

  • Linking with other agencies, promoters and groups and organising one off events that help to raise awareness of drug related issues.
  • Examples of special events are Power in the Park, Southampton Carnival, Scratchin' the Surface play and the weeklong Knowledge youth culture event.

    Media

  • Writing articles in clubbing, lifestyle magazines.
  • Interviews with local press
  • Appearing on local radio and TV.

    Training

  • Providing training to other organisations working in a similar field.
  • Ongoing training of volunteer team.
