HOW THE GROUPS WORK

Project workers facilitate two hour group sessions to give parents the opportunity to discuss needs, worries and concerns with others in similar situations.   This sharing of experiences helps information become more relevant and acceptable.   Project workers offer information so families can make their own informed decisions.  The project workers providing ongoing long-term support.  This is achieved both within group sessions and through home visiting.  Activities are offered to help develop practical skills and to increase self confidence and reduce stress.  These include : cooking, craft, drama, anger, stress management, health related sessions and keep-fit.

AIM OF THE PROJECTS

To provide an accessible service by

- Being local to the families

- Meeting regularly throughout the year including school holiday and only closing for very limited periods

- Inviting voluntary and statutory sector workers to offer their services in the groups

- By recognising that children need access to safe and stimulating play activities and resources.  These are provided as a crèche with qualified sessional play workers and volunteers.  These projects are registered OFSTED as appropriate.

- To provide practical needs such as access to clothing and baby equipment, food, etc.

- To maintain high standards, clear policies developed with families, volunteers and staff.

- To provide a consistent, positive role model with both the adults and the children.

- Regular evaluation.

- Record keeping is very limited and is only done with the families' knowledge.  Any records for Child Protection or court meetings are done with the families' involvement.
