What is Shopmobility?
The Shopmobility service provides manual and electric wheelchairs and mobility scooters to people with limited mobility, enabling them to access the city centre and shop independently. The Shopmobility equipment includes a range of mobility scooters and powerchairs, heavy duty vehicles, crutches, a child’s wheelchair and walkers.
Southampton City Shopmobility is situated in the heart of Southampton City Centre in the Bargate area of the city. In addition to our hiring service we also sell a range of mobility items including walking sticks, wheelchair bags and wheelchair cushions, radar keys, blue badge holders and scooter bags.

Daily and Long Term Hire
Shopmobility can offer daily hire of mobility scooters, powerchairs and manual wheelchairs for use in the city centre area.
In addition we offer long term hire of manual wheelchairs for periods up to a month, or more if required. This is ideal if you are going on a holiday or cruise from Southampton or have a relative visiting that requires a wheelchair. Shopmobility provides a delivery service for manual wheelchairs to a location of your choice. Please note the delivery service does incur an extra charge and also requires advance booking. The current charge for delivery to all cruise terminals is £12.50 each way.

Shopping Companion
Shopmobility also provide a Shopping Companion service whereby volunteers can accompany people with their shopping if they need extra help, or push them in a manual wheelchair. Shopmobility can also offer this service to people with visual impairments. You do not have to be registered as a disabled person to use this service.

Is there a charge for the Shopmobility service?
Yes, there is a small charge for using these services. Southampton City Shopmobility offers an annual membership of £7.50 which covers both our Shopmobility and 10 other local schemes. Daily hire charges for members are:
- £3.50 for an electric vehicle, £3.00 for a manual wheelchair
If you choose not to take up membership the daily hire charges are:
- £5 for an electric vehicle, £4.50 for a manual wheelchair
The charge for a Shopping Companion is £3.50 for all users.

Long Term Hire charges (manual chairs)
- £3 a day, £25 a week, £45 for two weeks, £60 for three weeks, £70 for four weeks
£40 refundable deposit is required for long term hire only

How to find us
Southampton City Shopmobility are ideally situated in a central location adjacent to the main pedestrian shopping centre and the West Quay Shopping Centre. We are also within easy reach of IKEA and have a non-barrier car park which is accessed from Castle Way.
From M27 Jct 3: Take M271 into Southampton and turn left to join dual carriageway. Follow the dual carriageway into the city centre, taking signs for city centre. Do not follow signs for West Quay or Waterfront. Continue straight passing Southampton train Station on your left. At the top of the hill turn right and continue along this road passing Asda and West quay Shopping Centre on your right and you will reach Shopmobility, a circular building on your left hand side.
